We couldn’t have asked for better playing conditions as we headed into our final 18 holes of the season. It was nice to return to a more normal ending to another great golf year after the turmoil of the Covid years. Let’s hope next season brings us all the way back.
In the “A” Division, the Rolling Stones cruised to a six shot victory over the second place Southpaws. The Stones finished with a total of 379 while the Southpaws scored a 385. The Fat Shafts finished well back in third with a total of 399 while Grip It N Sip It unfortunately had to drop out of play due to previous commitments.
History has shown in the league that anything can happen and no lead is safe heading into the final 18 holes of playoffs. That proved true once again as the Dubbers overcame an eight stroke deficit and moved from third place to first to win the “B” Division. The Dubbers finished with a total of 396 which was eight strokes better than both the Latecomers and KGB who tied for second place with a total of 404. The Fivesome struggled and finished well off the pace in fourth.
The “C” Division ended up being a bit of a runaway. The Whizbangers had an eight shot lead before the final day and they increased that lead to win the division by 22 strokes with a total of 420. The Wedgers held on to second place with a 442 total while the CCCP grabbed third with a 460 total. Rounding out the division in fourth place were the Hackers who shot 493.
The closest to the pin winners on the final day were Josh Hogan on hole 2, Tim Donaldson on hole 9, Nick Vangemeren on hole 11 and Brady Schick on hole 18. Josh Hogan was the only player to record a hole-in-one this year and walked away with $136 for his ace.
As always our sincere thanks to Alida and Tom for all they do behind the scenes. I would not be able to update this blog each week without Alida’s help in texting me the score sheets. Tom and Andy gave us great playing conditions all year long. A huge thanks to Steve Powell who continues to be the driving force behind our league and keeps it organized. His efforts can easily be taken for granted but I know every member truly appreciates what he does, even if we drive him crazy at times. Thanks to all of you who take the time to visit this blog throughout the season. It’s nice to know you enjoy checking it out each week.
Steve plans to get me a rundown of the league finances soon and I’ll do my best to post them once I get them. Just so you are all aware, there is a possibility of a slight increase in league dues next year which will of course go right back into the league and the cash prizes. More on that once it’s confirmed.
Below I’ve posted the final results and some photos from the final night for you to look at. If you click on a photo it should enlarge the image.
Thanks again for a terrific year and for those who won’t be out on Wednesday nights this Autumn to play the weekly fun scrambles, have a safe and healthy winter and we’ll see you in the Spring.

Dubbers Move Up
Despite the humid and buggy night, we certainly can’t complain about the golf conditions so far this season. Tonight, despite being a bit toasty, was another excellent evening to be swinging the clubs.
Tim Donaldson led all golfers tonight by shooting a round of 26 on the front nine. That left him just shy of tying the Individual Low Gross. He did help his Southpaws teammates take six points and shorten the lead of the first place Fat Shafts to three. They only managed five points.
The Dubbers, who took six points, took advantage of a pointless night by the KGB to slip ahead of them into fourth place and the potential last spot in the “A” division of the playoffs which are quickly approaching. The Fat Shafts and Southpaws have both clinched a spot in the top division.
Also taking six points were Grip It N Sip It and the Rolling Stones. The Latecomers took four points and Fivesome earned two points. The CCCP grabbed one point.
The closest to the pin winners were Rodney Keyes on hole 5 and Coady MacGillivary on hole 14. The 50/50 winner was Brady Schick.
With only four weeks of regular season play left, we return to the blue tees next week. See you then.

What A Smoke Show
The unprecedented wildfire season continues to bring very bad air quality to our area but luckily we got our round in tonight before the worst of it arrived.
Unfortunately a couple of teams must have had players get lost in the haze as they had to forfeit their matches this evening.
Denis Schick and Andy Koetstra played well tonight and both shot two over par rounds of 29. Al Wilkinson and Dave Horner both shot 30.
In the nights matches, the Fat Shafts, Whizbangers, KGB, CCCP and Rolling Stones took six points each. The Southpaws earned four points while the Fivesome took two points.
The closest to the pin winners were Ron Eliens on hole 1 and Dave Walker on hole 10. The 50/50 winner was Jared Culkin.
See you next Wednesday as we tackle the blue tees again.

Sweeps-A-Plenty
On another night when the blue tees proved to be a challenge to most of us, Colin McDonald was able to shoot the low score of the night with a 30 on the front nine. Denis Shick also played well on the front to shoot a 31.Colin McDonald fires at Hole #8.
The evenings matches were all six point sweeps for Grip It N Sip It, Whizbangers, Latecomers, KGB, Fat Shafts and Southpaws.
The closest to the pin winner on hole #5 was Mike Leslie while Rick Dean was tight on hole #14. The 50/50 winner was Don Muldoon.
We return to the white tees next week and hopefully some warmer weather. See you then.

The cool Spring conditions continued as we moved our game to the blue tees for the first time this season. This proved to be an added challenge for many based on the overall scores.
Denis Schick and Tim Donaldson had the low rounds of the night shooting 31. The Fat Shafts tied the Team Low Gross by posting a 98.
The Southpaws and Rolling Stones remain perfect after grabbing another six points each tonight. The Fat Shafts, Whizbangers and Fivesome also took all the points in their matches. The CCCP took four points while the Dubbers earned two points.
The closest to the pin winners were Jim Bryant on hole #2 and Josh McDonald on hole #11. The 50/50 winner was Carl Snutch.

Fat Shafts Alone In First
Despite a few black flies and mosquitoes we had a beautiful night for a round of golf. It was time to play the blue tees again and they proved to be a little difficult for some.
Andy Koetstra had the low round of the night shooting a 30 while Denis Schick posted a 31 and Mark Kennedy had a 32. The Fat Shafts had the low team score with a 95 and moved into sole possession of 1st place. The Southpaws moved up to second while the Whizbangers and Fivesome share third.
It was nearly a clean sweep for all the matches as the Fat Shafts, Wedgers, Southpaws, Fivesome and K.G.B. all took six points. The Rolling Stones took four points while the Latecomers earned two points.
Andy Koetstra had the Closest to the Pin on hole #3 while Tim Donaldson had the best shot on hole #12. Dave Powell was the 50/50 winner this week.
Back to the white tees next week.

Week Three Results
It was an absolutely perfect night for round three of the playoffs and our first night playing from the white tees and this allowed some teams to make some small moves. But with only one week remaining, will they be able to make up the difference?
In the "A" Flight the Fat Shafts were able to increase their lead slightly and will take a six stroke advantage over the KGB into the final nine holes. The Southpaws sit 12 strokes out while the Dubbers have slipped 25 shots back.
The Rolling Stones continue to have a commanding lead over the Whizbangers, although that lead did shrink slightly after tonight's round and the Stones sit in first with a 18 stroke advantage.
In the "C" Flight it also appears to be over as the Latecomers maintained their 14 stroke advantage going into week four ahead of the CCCP.
The low round of the evening was shared by Andy Koetstra, Steve Westlake and Tim Donaldson who all shot 29. Scott Reilly and Denis Schick both shot 30.The Closest to the Pin winners were Andy Koetstra on hole #7 and Adam Farkas on hole #16.

Whizbangers & Fivesome Win Playoffs
The final round of the 2020 Playoffs proved to be rather anticlimactic as both Divisions ended up as cake walks for the winning teams.
In the "A" Division, the Whizbangers made sure their lead would remain after the last nine holes and thanks to a final round score of 90, they cruised to the title with a total of 383 and a margin of 15 strokes over the second place Fat Shafts who posted a 398. The other four teams in the "A" flight were all close with only two strokes separating them but too far back to make a charge. Congratulations to the Whizbangers on a solid effort and on snapping the Fat Shafts winning streak.
The low rounds of the night were posted by Ross Prophet and Andy Koetstra who both shot 28. Denis Schick had a two over par 29. The Closest to the Pin winner on hole #4 was Sandy McLeod.
Over in the "B" Division it would have taken an incredible collapse by the Fivesome to squander their lead and they cruised to a 20 stroke victory over the second place Wedgers by shooting a four round total of 408. Eric Korver and Kim Defosse had the low rounds for the night with both shooting 32. Justin Timson earned the Closest to the Pin prize on hole #13.
This was certainly a very strange year for the league with the late start and all of the changes due to Covid19 and the entire league handled the tee times and social distancing extremely well. Thanks for making it work. I know we were disappointed there was no party this year but it's a different world we live in right now and it was obviously the right decision.
Our thanks to Steve Powell once again for ensuring the league ran smoothly all season long. It was and continues to be a fluid situation and Steve was on top of things and we would be lost without his efforts.
I know all of the members of the Wednesday Night Men's League want to thank Alida and Tom St. Denis for brainstorming and finding a way to make our league work this season. It looked as though the year could be completely lost but as the pandemic improved they were able to open things up and figure out a way to get us back out there.
The future is still uncertain but hopefully by the time Spring rolls around we'll see a more normal world emerge and next year we can get back to golf as we know it with a full 12 team schedule. Until that happens, stay safe and take care of yourselves.
Just a reminder for those who still want to golf on Wednesday nights, we will still be going out and playing best ball as long as the weather and daylight allows.
Final Playoff Standings

A couple of reminders for next week. With the use of masks being made mandatory inside all commercial buildings in our area, please note that to enter the clubhouse you will be required to wear a mask. You won't have to wear one on the deck or anywhere else on the golf course. It was good to see all teams make it out this week. Captain's please make sure your teams are set to go next week at the proper tee times. Stay cool and stay safe!
