Chilly Season Start

I think it’s safe to say we’ve had colder first nights to start a new season but this one definitely ranked up there. Or perhaps I should say down there. On the bright side, at least we weren’t snowed out as we have been in past years.

It was nice to see many familiar faces in the clubhouse before we started our round and we also want to welcome all of the new league members as well.

The scores were probably a bit higher overall but that’s to be expected with all of the winter rust to shake off. Tyler Donaldson and Colin McDonald had a good start and set the Individual Low Gross mark by shooting 30. The Team Low Gross to start the season was shot by both the KGB and Grip It N Sip It with a 98.

Jumping out to the early lead in the league standings were the Rolling Stones, Grip It N Sip It and the Southpaws who earned all six points in their matches. The KGB, Whizbangers and Fat Shafts each took four points while two points went to the Dubbers, CCCP and Latecomers.

The closest to the pin winners were Kevin Wadsworth on hole #1 and Derek LeClair on hole #10. The 50/50 winner was Dave Wilson.

Welcome back and see you next week.

The Southpaws placed third with a total score of 292 and the Whizbangers were fourth shooting 334.

In the “B” flight, the Dubbers sat two shots back before the round began but faltered and the Rolling Stones won the title by eight strokes with a total of 302. The Latecomers and KGB tied for second with scores of 310 while the Dubbers were one shot back in fourth with a total of 311.

Over in the “C” flight the CCCP held on to first all through the playoffs and took the title with a total score of 325. The Hackers were five strokes off the lead and shot a 330. If all goes well, I know we hope to return to our usual playoff format and party next year.

Just a reminder, for those who would still like to get out and play, we are still meeting each Wednesday night at 5:30pm to play for fun. It's usually a friendly round of best ball in teams so we hope to see you out. If not, have a safe and enjoyable Fall and Winter and we'll see you next season.

Hot and Humid Round

The summer hasn't officially arrived yet but you'd never know that based on the conditions we faced on night two of league play and the first round playing from the blue tees.

The added distance of the blues always provides an extra challenge and judging by the scores for most of us that was the case.

The low round of the night was 30, shot by both Dave Horner and Tim Donaldson. A new Team Low Gross was turned in by the KGB with a 97.

In the evenings matches, the Wedgers, Southpaws, KGB, Whizbangers and Fat Shafts all took six points. The Fivesome grabbed four points while the Rolling Stones took two points.

The Closest to the Pin winners were Derick LeClair on hole #2 and Brent Donnan on hole #11. The 50/50 winner was Rick Dean.

We're back to the white tees next week. See you then.

2019 Playoffs - Round Two

There was a feeling of Autumn to the second round of playoffs this evening as the breeze combined with the cooler temps made for another beautiful night for golf.

In the “A” Flight the Fat Shafts were able to extend their lead slightly over the second place KGB. The Fat Shafts shot 100 and will have a 14 stroke advantage heading into the final round on Saturday with a total score of 188. The KGB shot a 102 tonight to bring their total score to 202. The Dubbers shot 105 and the Whizbangers shot 104 and are tied 20 shots off the pace with a total of 208.

Things are very interesting in the “B” Flight where only two strokes separate the Fivesome, Southpaws and Rolling Stones. The Fivesome shot a 102 for a total of 202. The Southpaws posted a 101 and are in second place, one stroke back at 203. The Rolling Stones shot a 90 to vault them back into the hunt and are two strokes back at 204. The Bogies had a better round this week shooting a 106 but sit 16 strokes back with a 218 total.

The CCCP will have the largest lead to start the day on Saturday in the “C” Flight. After shooting 100 tonight, they have a total of 206 and a 15 stroke cushion over the second place Hackers who shot 107 for a score of 221. The Latecomers also scored 107 but sit in third spot 19 strokes back at 225. The Wedgers matched last weeks score of 113 and are 20 strokes out of first with a 226.

There were eight Closest to the Pin winners tonight. They included Carl Troke, Eric Korver, Carm Herrington, Dustin McLeod, Coady MacGillivary, Stephen Westlake, Derek LeClair and Denis Schick.

We’re done with the white tees now and on Saturday the entire 18 holes will be played from the Blues. A reminder that we tee off at 2:00pm and the wrap up party will follow the round. Bring your Toonies for the putting contest and it could be a chilly evening so bring some warm clothes. Now I sound like your mother. See you Saturday afternoon.

Over in the “B” Flight the battle for first is very close. The Fivesome, after shooting a round of 100, have the early lead by two strokes over the Southpaws who scored 102. The other two teams stumbled on night one as the Bogies shot 112 and the Rolling Stones finished with 114.

Scobie Aces Fourteen

For the third time in just two weeks, a league member had a hole-in-one. Tonight it was Paul Scobie who achieved this honour as he drained his tee shot on hole 14 using a six iron.

Scobie’s luck didn’t end there.
Paul Scobie had a hole-in-one on hole 14.
He also picked up the closest to the pin prize on hole #18 and set the new mark to beat for the Individual Low Gross by shooting an even par 27. Denis Schick and Andy Koetstra also played well and shot 28 each. The low team score for the night was turned in by the Fat Shafts with a 95.

Taking all six points up for grabs in their matches were the Fivesome, Bogies, Fat Shafts and KGB who were awarded their points when the CCCP were unable to field a team. Earning four points each were the Dubbers and Whizbangers while the Hackers and Latecomers took two points.

The Other Closest to the Pin winner was Justin Timson on hole #9. The 50/50 winner was Derek LeClair.

Al Wilkinson on hole #8.
Paul Scobie, Denis Schick, Andy Koetstra and Rick Dean now hold a share of the Individual Low Gross lead with Tim Donaldson and Al Wilkinson.

The KGB who already held the Team Low Gross lead matched their low total of 92 again this evening but the Whizbangers also shot 92 and share that mark as well.

The Whizbangers took six points to move into second place behind the Fat Shafts who also earned six points to remain on top. The KGB grabbed five points while the Rolling Stones and Wedgers each took four. The CCCP and Fivesome halved their match for three points each.
