2019 Playoffs - Round Two

There was a feeling of Autumn to the second round of playoffs this evening as the breeze combined with the cooler temps made for another beautiful night for golf.

In the “A” Flight the Fat Shafts were able to extend their lead slightly over the second place KGB. The Fat Shafts shot 100 and will have a 14 stroke advantage heading into the final round on Saturday with a total score of 188. The KGB shot a 102 tonight to bring their total score to 202. The Dubbers shot 105 and the Whizbangers shot 104 and are tied 20 shots off the pace with a total of 208.

Things are very interesting in the “B” Flight where only two strokes separate the Fivesome, Southpaws and Rolling Stones. The Fivesome shot a 102 for a total of 202. The Southpaws posted a 101 and are in second place, one stroke back at 203. The Rolling Stones shot a 90 to vault them back into the hunt and are two strokes back at 204. The Bogies had a better round this week shooting a 106 but sit 16 strokes back with a 218 total.

The CCCP will have the largest lead to start the day on Saturday in the “C” Flight. After shooting 100 tonight, they have a total of 206 and a 15 stroke cushion over the second place Hackers who shot 107 for a score of 221. The Latecomers also scored 107 but sit in third spot 19 strokes back at 225. The Wedgers matched last weeks score of 113 and are 20 strokes out of first with a 226.

There were eight Closest to the Pin winners tonight. They included Carl Troke, Eric Korver, Carm Herrington, Dustin McLeod, Coady MacGillivary, Stephen Westlake, Derek LeClair and Denis Schick.

We’re done with the white tees now and on Saturday the entire 18 holes will be played from the Blues. A reminder that we tee off at 2:00pm and the wrap up party will follow the round. Bring your Toonies for the putting contest and it could be a chilly evening so bring some warm clothes. Now I sound like your mother. See you Saturday afternoon.

Westlake Ties Low Gross

It was another perfect night for golf as the season continues to slowly wind down on us with only four weeks remaining after tonight's round before the playoffs begin.

Stephen Westlake shot an impressive round of even par 27 to move into a three way tie for the Individual Low Gross with Paul Scobie and Andy Koetstra.

The Fat Shafts and KGB squared off in the battle of the top two teams and the Shafts took all six points to increase their team total to 74 points and overall lead to 19 points. The Dubbers slipped past the KGB into second spot with four points this evening while the Whizbangers earned five points and moved within two points of third.

The battle for fifth continues to be interesting as the Rolling Stones took six points and the Southpaws nabbed five points and are now tied for fifth with 37 points each. The Hackers took four points tonight while the Fivesome and CCCP each earned two points. The Wedgers and Latecomers both grabbed one point each.

The Closest to the Pin winners were Carl Troke on hole #4 and Jim Conley on hole #13. The 50/50 winner was Benny Brock.

Apologies for not having any photos or videos to post but I'm on holidays and was unable to attend. See you next week.

Fat Shafts Set New Low

The heat of the night seemed to have a different effect on the golfers this evening than it did last week as some much lower rounds were posted overall.

Andy Koetstra tied Paul Scobie’s low score of even par 27 to earn a share of the Individual Low Gross lead. Koetstra’s score also combined with teammates Stephen Westlake and Mark Kennedy to set the new Team Low Gross mark by shooting an 88. Special mention to Carl Troke who had his best round of the year posting a 32 with back to back birdies on his last two holes.

The matches were all sweeps tonight as the Fat Shafts, Whizbangers, Dubbers, Southpaws, Latecomers and KGB all took six points.

The Closest to the Pin winners were Tyler Donaldson on hole #2 and Jimmy Rogers on hole #11. The 50/50 winner was Steve Guindon.

How Sweep It Is

After a stumble last week, the KGB were able to take advantage of some help by the Southpaws to regain top spot in the league. However, the lead is a slim one with the lefties, Fat Shafts, Whizbangers and Rolling Stones all in the hunt.

It was feast or famine as we played from the blue tees this evening. All six matches were clean sweeps with the CCCP, Southpaws, KGB, Rolling Stones, Fat Shafts and Hackers taking all six points up for grabs.

The low team score was posted by the Fat Shaft with a 96. The low scores for the night were turned in by Andy Koetstra and Tim Donaldson who both shot 29. Andy also grabbed the closest to the pin on hole #15 while Carl Troke was most accurate on hole #6. The 50/50 winner was Kim Defosse.
