We couldn’t have asked for better playing conditions as we headed into our final 18 holes of the season. It was nice to return to a more normal ending to another great golf year after the turmoil of the Covid years. Let’s hope next season brings us all the way back.
In the “A” Division, the Rolling Stones cruised to a six shot victory over the second place Southpaws. The Stones finished with a total of 379 while the Southpaws scored a 385. The Fat Shafts finished well back in third with a total of 399 while Grip It N Sip It unfortunately had to drop out of play due to previous commitments.
History has shown in the league that anything can happen and no lead is safe heading into the final 18 holes of playoffs. That proved true once again as the Dubbers overcame an eight stroke deficit and moved from third place to first to win the “B” Division. The Dubbers finished with a total of 396 which was eight strokes better than both the Latecomers and KGB who tied for second place with a total of 404. The Fivesome struggled and finished well off the pace in fourth.
The “C” Division ended up being a bit of a runaway. The Whizbangers had an eight shot lead before the final day and they increased that lead to win the division by 22 strokes with a total of 420. The Wedgers held on to second place with a 442 total while the CCCP grabbed third with a 460 total. Rounding out the division in fourth place were the Hackers who shot 493.
The closest to the pin winners on the final day were Josh Hogan on hole 2, Tim Donaldson on hole 9, Nick Vangemeren on hole 11 and Brady Schick on hole 18. Josh Hogan was the only player to record a hole-in-one this year and walked away with $136 for his ace.
As always our sincere thanks to Alida and Tom for all they do behind the scenes. I would not be able to update this blog each week without Alida’s help in texting me the score sheets. Tom and Andy gave us great playing conditions all year long. A huge thanks to Steve Powell who continues to be the driving force behind our league and keeps it organized. His efforts can easily be taken for granted but I know every member truly appreciates what he does, even if we drive him crazy at times. Thanks to all of you who take the time to visit this blog throughout the season. It’s nice to know you enjoy checking it out each week.
Steve plans to get me a rundown of the league finances soon and I’ll do my best to post them once I get them. Just so you are all aware, there is a possibility of a slight increase in league dues next year which will of course go right back into the league and the cash prizes. More on that once it’s confirmed.
Below I’ve posted the final results and some photos from the final night for you to look at. If you click on a photo it should enlarge the image.
Thanks again for a terrific year and for those who won’t be out on Wednesday nights this Autumn to play the weekly fun scrambles, have a safe and healthy winter and we’ll see you in the Spring.

2023 Playoffs - Round 2
What a difference a week makes as the summer heat returned with a vengeance tonight. The sweltering conditions made things a bit uncomfortable for the second nine playoff holes and last from the white tees this year.
In the “A” Division things remain very tight heading into the final Saturday. The Rolling Stones now share the lead with Grip It N Sip It after shooting a 96. The Grips posted a 95 to tie things up. The Southpaws shot 97 tonight and sit three shots off the lead. The Fat Shafts shot 95 but still have a big hill to climb after a bad first nine and they sit 12 shots back.
Over in the “B” Division the Latecomers continue to lead thanks in part to Josh Hogan who shot an even par 27 which included a hole-in-one on hole 6. The Latecomers increased their lead to eight strokes over the KGB who posted a team score of 103. The Dubbers are 11 shots back with a 207 total while the Fivesome are well back in fourth.
The “C” Division saw the Whizbangers increase their lead slightly heading into Saturday as they shot 110 for a total of 218. The Wedgers are eight shots off the lead with a 226 total. Rounding out the division the CCCP sit in third and the Hackers are fourth.
The closest to the pin winners tonight were Jim Conley on hole 8 and Red Eliens on hole 17. Gerry Fox was the 50/50 winner.
Just a reminder that the final 18 holes from the blue tees goes this Saturday afternoon beginning at 2:30 p.m. The party will follow. As always, just a reminder to please do not drink and drive. Make sure you have a designated driver to pick you up if you plan to enjoy some evening beverages. If all goes well, I expect the putting contest to make a return again this year. See you Saturday.

2022 Playoffs - Week Two Results
I don’t think we could have asked for better conditions for week two of our playoffs. The course was in great shape, the temperature was ideal and the bugs…okay, two out of three isn’t bad.
The overall scoring for the round was also improved over last week and this allowed for some changes to the standings and some good scores.
Andy Koetstra had the low round of the night with an even par 27. This helped the Fat Shafts to shoot 90 and move into a slim lead in the “A” Flight. The Southpaws shot 94 and sit two shots back in second while Grip It N Sip It had a solid round of 92 and are only six shots back. The Whizbangers are 21 shots off the lead in fourth.
In the “B” Flight, the Latecomers struggled tonight and have dropped out of the lead. The Rolling Stones shot 100 again this week and have a two stroke advantage over the second place Dubbers who shot 102. The Latecomers shot 111 and sit in a tie with the KGB for third after they shot a 103.
In the “C” Flight, the CCCP who shot a 110, remain in first but their lead has shrunk to four shots over the Hackers who posted an impressive score of 103. The Wedgers and Fivesome are tied for third and are only 9 shots off the lead so anything could happen.
The full standings after week two are below. The 50/50 winner was Mike Leslie and the closest to the pin winners were as follows:

2022 Playoffs - Week One Results
After a season of dry weather on Wednesday nights, we were subjected to some damp conditions at times as we began the 2022 Playoffs.
Perhaps it was the rain or maybe playing from the blue tees but scoring overall was on the high side tonight. The end result was a close competition in all three divisions with two weeks remaining. The low rounds of the evening were turned in by Gerry Fox and Colin MacDonald who both shot 30.
The standings after week one are below. The 50/50 winner was Rob Campbell and the closest to the pin winners were as follows:

Final 2021 Playoff Results
With the final nine holes in the books, we're officially done league play for the season. Over the last nine holes leads were increased or shrunk but ultimately not much changed in the standings.
The regular season champs, the Fat Shafts, were able to stretch their lead over the second place K.G.B. to claim the "A" Flight Playoff title by a 13 stroke margin. The Fat Shafts posted a four round total of 386 while the K.G.B. shot a total of 399. The Southpaws gained some ground but settled for third place shooting 402 while the Dubbers finished with a total of 426.
In the end the "B" Flight was no contest as the Rolling Stones grabbed top spot by shooting a four round total of 398. The Whizbangers were in second heading to the final round but unfortunately scheduling conflicts meant the couldn't field a team for the last round. This allowed the Fivesome to slip past the Hackers by one stroke into second place shooting 440 and 441 respectively.
Over in the "C" Flight, the Latecomers stumbled on the last night and their lead shrunk by five strokes but they still took the title by nine strokes shooting a 431. The C.C.C.P. gained some ground but had to settle for second place while the Wedgers were a little further back in third.
The Closest to the Pin winners on the final night were:
Our thanks to Stephen Powell for once again doing so much work behind the scenes to keep us going during another difficult and uncertain season. Thanks also to Alida and Tom for their work to keep things safe and organized at the clubhouse and for the excellent playing conditions all season long.
The Powell family also want to express their sincere thanks to those members who generously donated to the Downie-Wenjack fund in memory of Jerry Powell. You helped to donate $400 out of a total of $900 raised for the fund.
Steve, Alida and Tom also wanted to thank all of you for your cooperation during these Covid times to make the league run smoothly once again. If you know anyone who is interested in playing next year, please let them know.
On a personal note, I know this has been another tough season and each week it was great to see so many familiar and new faces on the course. The social aspect has changed somewhat without the shotgun start but you made it work and enjoyable each and every week. Fingers crossed the final 18 holes and wrap-up party return next season. If all goes well, the league blog will return in 2022, either here or at another site but I'll let you know about that in time. This site has been proving quite finicky in recent weeks.
Just a reminder, for those who would still like to get out and play, we are still meeting each Wednesday night at 5:30pm to play for fun. It's usually a friendly round of best ball in teams so we hope to see you out. If not, have a safe and enjoyable Fall and Winter and we'll see you next season.

Week Three Results
It was an absolutely perfect night for round three of the playoffs and our first night playing from the white tees and this allowed some teams to make some small moves. But with only one week remaining, will they be able to make up the difference?
In the "A" Flight the Fat Shafts were able to increase their lead slightly and will take a six stroke advantage over the KGB into the final nine holes. The Southpaws sit 12 strokes out while the Dubbers have slipped 25 shots back.
The Rolling Stones continue to have a commanding lead over the Whizbangers, although that lead did shrink slightly after tonight's round and the Stones sit in first with a 18 stroke advantage.
In the "C" Flight it also appears to be over as the Latecomers maintained their 14 stroke advantage going into week four ahead of the CCCP.
The low round of the evening was shared by Andy Koetstra, Steve Westlake and Tim Donaldson who all shot 29. Scott Reilly and Denis Schick both shot 30.The Closest to the Pin winners were Andy Koetstra on hole #7 and Adam Farkas on hole #16.

In the "A" Division the Whizbangers turned in an impressive round of 89, lead by Sandy McLeod and Taylor Rivando who each shot rounds of 29. Steve Guindon added a round of 31. Steve Westlake of the Fat Shafts had the low round of the night with a one over par 28. Mark Lafee also posted a 29.

2020 Playoffs - Round Two
That's it for the Blue Tees for this year and for some of us, it's welcome news as they proved to be troublesome on night two of the playoffs.
In the "A" Division the standings remain relatively tight and with two weeks remaining a good round by one team or a bad round by another could have a serious impact on things.
The Southpaws moved into first place by themselves with a low round of 94 for the night. That gives them an eight stroke lead over the second place Whizbangers and and nine stroke lead on the Dubbers and Rolling Stones. The KGB had a good night and are ten strokes back while the Fat Shafts continue to struggle and sit in last place 13 strokes off the pace.
The low rounds of the night were turned in by Jim Conley and Tim Donaldson who both shot 28. Kevin Wadsworth posted a two over par round of 29. Andy Koetstra won the Closest to the Pin prize on hole #2.
Over in the "B" Division, the Fivesome have a fairly comfortable lead. They shot a score of 107 and sit eight shots ahead of the Wedgers who turned in a score of 105. The Hackers are well back in third and are one stroke ahead of the Bogies.
Scott Reilly had the low round on this side shooting a 31. Eric Korver was close enough on hole #11 to win the Closest to the Pin.
Next week we start the last two weeks of playoffs with both week on the White tees. Check your tee times and we'll see you there.

Tim Donaldson had the low round of the night shooting a 28. Al Wilkinson posted a two over par 29. Donaldson also left with the Closest to the Pin cash from hole #10.
Over in the "B" Division the Fivesome had the low round of the night overall with a 100. That gives them a ten stroke lead heading into week two as the Wedgers shot a 110 for second place. The Bogies are one shot back after shooting 111 and the Hackers sit in fourth spot after a team round of 118.
Kim Defosse had the Closest to the Pin on hole #1.

2019 Playoffs - Final Round
The Fat Shafts needed to use all of their 14 stroke lead on the final day to hang on for a three shot victory over the KGB to win the "A" Flight. The Fat Shafts finished with a total of 394 while the KGB picked up 11 strokes and made it close with a total of 397. The Dubbers started the day tied with the Whizbangers 20 strokes out of first and picked up some ground to claim third spot with a total of 405. The Whizbangers also picked up a little ground but finished fourth with a score of 411.
We expected the "B" Flight to be a battle on the final day and it didn't disappoint. The Fivesome had a rough day and slipped from first place to third when the dust settled with a total of 416. The Southpaws came away as champs of the "B" Flight with a slim one stroke victory over the Rolling Stones. The Southpaws finished with a score of 400 with the Rolling Stones at 401. The Bogies rounded our the division in fourth place with a score of 426.
In the "C" Flight, the CCCP had a big lead heading into the day and despite picking up a little bit of ground, the Latecomers couldn't overcome the deficit. The CCCP claimed the "C" division with a final score of 426. The Latecomers totaled 440. The Hackers took third with a score of 450 while the Wedgers struggled on the final day and settled for fourth place with a total of 470.
No list of Closest to the Pin winners was available but as I'm sure everyone noticed, there were a lot of impressive shots to earn the honours.
Many thanks as always to everyone who helped to make the day a success behind the scenes. To Tom and Alida St.Denis for their hospitality and awesome golfing conditions all season. Stephen Powell earns our gratitude as always for keeping the league running smoothly all year and for his hard work in putting together an impressive wrap up party. Thanks also to the other helpers behind the scenes today, including Debbie Stewart, Julia Bosma and Rose Moran. We can't forget Stephen Westlake and Kim Defosse who year after year run the putting contest where half of the money raised goes to Terry Fox and the Cancer Society. Thanks to everyone who took part as well.
Just a reminder that even though league play is done, you are still invited to keep coming out Wednesday nights for some always fun best ball action. It's always a good time.
Thanks for checking out the blog each week. If all goes well, we'll keep it going again next season. Have a safe and enjoyable winter. Lets hope it's a warm and short one.
