Fat Shafts Five Time Champs

For the fifth consecutive season, the Fat Shafts have clinched the Regular Season title. After taking four points in their match this evening, they made it impossible to be caught by the Southpaws or the Rolling Stones. Those two teams will still have to determine second and third in the final week. Congrats to the team members, Mark Kennedy, Andy Koetstra, Lyle Williams, Stephen Westlake and Gerry Fox.

The last playoff spot in the “A” Division is still unknown although Grip It N Sip It holds a slim three point lead over the KGB.

The Dubbers and Latecomers are assured to be in the “B” Division while the battle for eighth place between the Whizbangers, Fivesome and CCCP will come down to next Wednesday night. Just four points separate the teams.

Tim Donaldson had the low round of the night shooting a 28. Andy Koetstra posted a 29 and Steve Westlake shot a round of 30.

In the other matches tonight, the Southpaws, KGB and CCCP all took six points. The Rolling Stones and Grip It N Sip It earned four points while two points each went to the Whizbangers, Fivesome and Dubbers.

The closest to the pin winners were the Rolling Stones on hole 8 and Ron Eilens on hole 17. The 50/50 winner was Kim Defosse.

A special reminder to the team captains to please let Steve Powell know by next week, how many players you will have out for the final 18 holes of playoffs and the party on September 9th. Steve needs and accurate head count.

Congratulations to Andy Koetstra  who won the Club Championships last weekend. He and Nick Vangemeren needed a three hole playoff to decide things.

We’re back to the white tees for the final week of the regular season. See you then.

Feeling Hot Hot Hot

Lyle Williams fires at the ninth hole.
I can’t speak for everyone but the heat and humidity took a toll on my round tonight. I was ready to pack it in after three holes and based on my score, I should have. I like the heat but golfing in a sauna is frowned upon for a reason. But we made it and hopefully we see a cool down soon.

In the evenings matches, the Southpaws moved into a tie for first after the Fat Shafts faltered. The Rolling Stones sit alone in third just ahead of the KGB. There’s still lots of time to make moves and improve your playoff positioning.

Taking all six points in their matches were Grip It N Sip It, Southpaws, Rolling Stones and Whizbangers. The Latecomers and Dubbers grabbed four points each. Two points went to the Fat Shafts and KGB.

The closest to the pin winners were Dave Walker for the second week in a row, this time on hole 2 and Eric Korver on hole 11. The 50/50 winner was Kevin Wadsworth.

See you next Wednesday as we return to the hopefully more forgiving white tees.

CCCP Are On The Board

I hope you had your bug spray handy when you took to the links tonight. The annoying biters were out in full force on this overcast but comfortable evening for golf.

The blue tees once again proved to be an overall challenge as scoring was a bit higher this round. Both the Rolling Stones and Fat Shafts shot a team score of 97 to be the only teams in double digits.

Taking all six points in their matches were Grip It N Sip It, Fat Shafts and CCCP who scored their first points of the season. The Whizbangers took five points while the Latecomers and Rolling Stones both grabbed four points. The Dubbers and Southpaws earned two points each while a single point went to K.G.B.

The Closest to the Pin winners were Tom St. Denis on hole #5 and Mark Kennedy on hole #14. The 50/50 winner was Jim Rogers.

We were sorry to see Lyle Williams caught the “Blue Tees Flu” but hope he’s feeling better and back next week when we play the white tees. See you then.

Better Late Than Never

Covid19 really put a wrench in our plans this year in more ways than one and although we're about two months late starting an abbreviated season, it was nice to get out tonight and see some familiar faces again.

It was a hot round in more ways than one with some impressive scores and shots along with the extreme heat and humidity.

Denis Schick and Andy Koetstra set the mark to beat for Individual Low Gross as they both posted an even par round of 27. Al Wilkinson and Stephen Westlake also had impressive rounds with each of them finishing with 29. The Team Low Gross mark was set by the Fat Shafts who combined for a total of 87.

Three teams grabbed all six points up for grabs with the Fat Shafts, Southpaws and Whizbangers sweeping their matches. The Bogies took four points while the Dubbers and Rolling Stones battled to a tie and three points each. The Wedgers earned two points on the night.

The Closest to the Pin winners were Andy Koetstra on Hole #1 and Paul Scobie on Hole #10. Lyle Williams was the first 50/50 winner of the season.

Thanks to Steve Powell and Tom and Alida for getting the league set up on short notice and during these crazy times.

Just a reminder to check your tee times for next Wednesday and make sure you have your four golfers there and ready to go 10 minutes prior.

Fat Shafts Clinch First

(Update: A couple days after posting the update below, an error was found on the score sheet. The standings are correct now but this story contains some inaccuracies based on the original scores.)

With three weeks left to play in the regular season, the Fat Shafts (consisting of Mark Kennedy, Andy Koetstra, Lyle Williams, Stephen Westlake and Dave Reid) have clinched the league championship. With a 22 point lead they can’t be caught by the now second place KGB.

The Fat Shafts earned six points in their match against the Dubbers this evening.
Peter Hughes fires at hole #1.
The Rolling Stones also took six points and still mathematically have a chance to challenge for a spot in the “A” flight of the upcoming playoffs. They currently sit nine points behind the fourth place Whizbangers. Also taking six points were the KGB.

Further down in the standings, the Bogies, Latecomers and Hackers are all tied for ninth place with 27 points but any of them could slip into the “B” flight as they are only nine points back of the eighth place CCCP.

Also taking points this evening were the Southpaws, Hackers and Fivesome who earned four point each. Two points went to the Whizbangers, Wedgers and CCCP.

Tim Donaldson had the low round of the night with a 29. The Closest to the Pin winners were Dave Walker on hole #5 and Eric Mofina on hole #14. The 50/50 winner was Rick Turtle.

The End Is Nearing

With only three weeks of regular season play remaining, the time left to set up your playoff position is quickly vanishing.

The KGB have a nine point lead on the Southpaws which seems insurmountable considering how consistent they've played this season but anything can happen. The Whizbangers gained a little ground on the fourth place Fat Shafts and there is a possibility they could slip into that final spot in the "A" flight should the Shafts continue to falter. There is also much to be decided further down in "B" and "C" Flights with several teams are in the mix.

On this night there were just three perfect teams as the Rolling Stones, Southpaws and Whizbangers all took six points. The CCCP, Fat Shafts and KGB took four points each while two points went to the Latecomers, Bogies and Wedgers.

The low round of the evening was shot by Andy Koetstra with a two-over 29. The closest to the pin winners were Rick Dean on hole #4 and Stephen Westlake on hole #13. Tony Schick was the 50/50 winner this week.

Southpaws Tie Low Gross

The Fat Shafts have some company at the Team Low Gross lead after the Southpaws shot 91 against them for six points and also moved past the free-falling Shafts to sit in second place behind the KGB. The Rolling Stones were handed six easy points when the CCCP failed to field a team and now sit tied for third place.

The Whizbangers and KGB also took six points tonight while the Wedgers and Dubbers each grabbed four points. Two points each went to the Latecomers and Fivesome.

Benny Brock's luck continues as he was once again picked as the 50/50 winner. The low rounds of the evening were shot by Tim Donaldson and Andy Koetstra with scores of 28.

The closest to the pin winners were Denis Schick on hole #3 and Eric Korver on hole #12. Special thanks to Rick Dean who bought a round for everyone after his ace last week.

Beautiful But Cancelled

Heading to the golf course tonight I wondered if I should have used a boat instead of my car as the torrential rain and lightning moved in as expected.

And also as expected it was gone as quickly as it came and by 6pm we were ready to golf on a beautiful evening.
The only problem was not enough league members showed up to play the round as the weather scared them off.

Those that did show up either went home or stuck around to play in a fun best ball scramble. The winning team at 4-under-par consisted of Denis Schick, Tom St.Denis, Mark Kennedy, Lyle Williams and Benny Brock.

See you next week.

It Was Worth The Wait

Tim Donaldson takes aim at hole #3.

I'm sure many of you were wondering if we'd ever get the season started but finally tonight after two missed weeks, the rain stayed away and we couldn't have asked for better weather.

The course was in terrific shape and the greens were quite speedy for the first week in May. I know it's only a matter of time but the bugs were rather tame as well.

After our usual gathering at the clubhouse to catch up after a long winter it was finally time to get things going. It was nearly clean sweeps in all of the matches as the Whizbangers, Southpaws, Dubbers, Fivesome and KGB all took six points.
Glen Lonergan fires at the green.
The Fat Shafts earned five points having to split the Net total with the Rolling Stones who finished with one point.

There were several impressive individual rounds with Tim Donaldson and Peter Hughes leading the way, each with a score of even par 27. Andy Koetstra posted a one over par round of 28. The KGB set the pace for the Team Low Gross by shooting a combined score of 92.

The closest to the pin winners were Tyler Donaldson on hole #1 and Peter Hughes on hole #10. Lyle Williams was the first 50/50 winner of the year.
