Chilly Season Start

I think it’s safe to say we’ve had colder first nights to start a new season but this one definitely ranked up there. Or perhaps I should say down there. On the bright side, at least we weren’t snowed out as we have been in past years.

It was nice to see many familiar faces in the clubhouse before we started our round and we also want to welcome all of the new league members as well.

The scores were probably a bit higher overall but that’s to be expected with all of the winter rust to shake off. Tyler Donaldson and Colin McDonald had a good start and set the Individual Low Gross mark by shooting 30. The Team Low Gross to start the season was shot by both the KGB and Grip It N Sip It with a 98.

Jumping out to the early lead in the league standings were the Rolling Stones, Grip It N Sip It and the Southpaws who earned all six points in their matches. The KGB, Whizbangers and Fat Shafts each took four points while two points went to the Dubbers, CCCP and Latecomers.

The closest to the pin winners were Kevin Wadsworth on hole #1 and Derek LeClair on hole #10. The 50/50 winner was Dave Wilson.

Welcome back and see you next week.

Tentative Start Date Revealed

I heard from Steve Powell and after talking with Alida and Tom at the course, we have a tentative start date for the 2023 League play. Weather permitting, our season will begin on Wednesday April 19th with the usual 6:00pm shotgun start. Team Captains are asked to make sure they will have a team and to let Steve know as soon as possible.

As expected, the league dues have increased slightly to $40 for the year and this is to be paid on your first night of play.

It is also my understanding that the final 18 holes of playoffs and the wrap up party will return this year for the first time since 2019. Of course, this isn't written in stone and will hinge on what transpires over the summer with that virus that I won't name.

So clean up your clubs, fill your bag with ball and polish your shoes...and we'll see you soon.

Getting The Itch?

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm starting to get the shakes from being away from the golf course all winter.

Hopefully everyone has been safe and healthy since we last saw each other. Perhaps some of you were able to sneak away to a warmer climate and do a little golfing while the rest of us were left just dreaming of draining a long birdie putt.

Up until a few days ago I had hopes of an early Spring thaw and was planning to search for all of my golfing paraphanalia in anticipation of the upcoming season. Sadly the return of the snowy weather only brought a longer skiing season for some of you.

With any luck we'll see green grass sooner rather than later. As always, once I hear any news regarding the course opening or a planned start date for league play, I'll let you know here. Nothing is ever written in stone as Mother Nature doesn't always see eye to eye with us.

In the meantime, don't injure yourselves shovelling snow or slip on any icy spots. And of course... think warm thoughts.

League Finances

For those of you who may be interested, here is a breakdown of the league finances for the season.

Things are a bit different than normal since the Hole in One pot, 50/50 and Closest to the Pin money are taken from league dues. Under normal circumstances we would pay that each week to enter ourselves into a chance to win those prizes and that money would be used to cover the final party. With any luck we can return to that next Spring.

2022 Playoffs - Final Results

Another excellent season of league play has come to an end and the final playoff results were competitive right up to the last nine holes.

In the “A” flight, the Fat Shafts were the winners once again this year, although Grip It N Sip It kept it close just five strokes back. The Fat Shafts posted a score of 92 for a three round total of 282. Grip It N Sip It finished second, shooting 91 tonight for a total of 287. The Southpaws placed third with a total score of 292 and the Whizbangers were fourth shooting 334.

In the “B” flight, the Dubbers sat two shots back before the round began but faltered and the Rolling Stones won the title by eight strokes with a total of 302. The Latecomers and KGB tied for second with scores of 310 while the Dubbers were one shot back in fourth with a total of 311.

Over in the “C” flight the CCCP held on to first all through the playoffs and took the title with a total score of 325. The Hackers were five strokes off the lead and shot a 330. The Wedgers grabbed third with a score of 340 while the Fivesome ended up fourth shooting 341. The full standings are below.

Congratulations to Andy Koetstra, who as a result of being the only one to get a hole in one this year, takes home the pot.

Our thanks as always to Stephen Powell for all of his hard work and organization behind the scenes. If all goes well, I know we hope to return to our usual playoff format and party next year.

Just a reminder, for those who would still like to get out and play, we are still meeting each Wednesday night at 5:30pm to play for fun. It's usually a friendly round of best ball in teams so we hope to see you out. If not, have a safe and enjoyable Fall and Winter and we'll see you next season.

2022 Playoffs - Week Two Results

I don’t think we could have asked for better conditions for week two of our playoffs. The course was in great shape, the temperature was ideal and the bugs…okay, two out of three isn’t bad.

The overall scoring for the round was also improved over last week and this allowed for some changes to the standings and some good scores.

Andy Koetstra had the low round of the night with an even par 27. This helped the Fat Shafts to shoot 90 and move into a slim lead in the “A” Flight. The Southpaws shot 94 and sit two shots back in second while Grip It N Sip It had a solid round of 92 and are only six shots back. The Whizbangers are 21 shots off the lead in fourth.

In the “B” Flight, the Latecomers struggled tonight and have dropped out of the lead. The Rolling Stones shot 100 again this week and have a two stroke advantage over the second place Dubbers who shot 102. The Latecomers shot 111 and sit in a tie with the KGB for third after they shot a 103.

In the “C” Flight, the CCCP who shot a 110, remain in first but their lead has shrunk to four shots over the Hackers who posted an impressive score of 103. The Wedgers and Fivesome are tied for third and are only 9 shots off the lead so anything could happen.

The full standings after week two are below. The 50/50 winner was Mike Leslie and the closest to the pin winners were as follows:

Andy Koetstra - Hole #2

Jamie Sandercock - Hole #5

Pat Flynn - Hole #8

David Horner - Hole #11

Terry Letch - Hole #14

Terry Letch - Hole #17
