Regular Season Complete

The last night of the regular season has solidified the final standings and the participants in each of the playoff divisions. Before I share those groupings, we’ll take care of tonight’s matches.

The Fivesome narrowly took six points from the KGB and slipped past the Whizbangers for eighth place. Also taking six points were the Southpaws, Dubbers, Rolling Stones and Fat Shafts. Grip It N Sip It grabbed five points while a single point went to the Latecomers.

The closest to the pin winners were Nick Vangemeren on hole 9 and Colin McDonald on hole 18. The 50/50 winner was Pat Convey.

As we head into the first nine holes of the playoffs next week, these will be the division groupings.

“A” Division
1. Fat Shafts
2. Southpaws
3. Rolling Stones
4. Grip It N Sip It

“B” Division
1. KGB
2. Dubbers
3. Latecomers
4. Fivesome

“C” Division

Just a reminder that we will be returning to our pre-Covid playoff routine. The next two Wednesdays will be nine holes each from the white tees. On Saturday September 9th we will play 18 holes from the blue tees and all team members can play. The round will be followed by the wrap up meal and social.

If anything changes I’ll let you know. See you next week.

Fat Shafts Five Time Champs

For the fifth consecutive season, the Fat Shafts have clinched the Regular Season title. After taking four points in their match this evening, they made it impossible to be caught by the Southpaws or the Rolling Stones. Those two teams will still have to determine second and third in the final week. Congrats to the team members, Mark Kennedy, Andy Koetstra, Lyle Williams, Stephen Westlake and Gerry Fox.

The last playoff spot in the “A” Division is still unknown although Grip It N Sip It holds a slim three point lead over the KGB.

The Dubbers and Latecomers are assured to be in the “B” Division while the battle for eighth place between the Whizbangers, Fivesome and CCCP will come down to next Wednesday night. Just four points separate the teams.

Tim Donaldson had the low round of the night shooting a 28. Andy Koetstra posted a 29 and Steve Westlake shot a round of 30.

In the other matches tonight, the Southpaws, KGB and CCCP all took six points. The Rolling Stones and Grip It N Sip It earned four points while two points each went to the Whizbangers, Fivesome and Dubbers.

The closest to the pin winners were the Rolling Stones on hole 8 and Ron Eilens on hole 17. The 50/50 winner was Kim Defosse.

A special reminder to the team captains to please let Steve Powell know by next week, how many players you will have out for the final 18 holes of playoffs and the party on September 9th. Steve needs and accurate head count.

Congratulations to Andy Koetstra  who won the Club Championships last weekend. He and Nick Vangemeren needed a three hole playoff to decide things.

We’re back to the white tees for the final week of the regular season. See you then.

Still Time For Moves

With just two weeks of regular season play remaining, there’s still plenty left to be decided.

Both the Southpaws and Rolling Stones have a chance to catch the first place Fat Shafts who hold a nine point lead.

The fourth spot in the top playoff division is also yet to be determined as Grip It N Sip It and KGB battle it out. The Dubbers are mathematically still in the mix.

The “B” Division is also anyone’s guess as several teams can solidify their spot or drop to the “C” Division. Next week could clear things up a bit more.

Taking all six points tonight were the Fat Shafts, Southpaws, Grip It N Sip It, Fivesome and the Latecomers. The Rolling Stones earned five points while the KGB took one point.

Tim Donaldson had the low round of the night shooting a 28 while Peter Hughes posted a 29.

The closest to the pin winners were Terry Letch on hole 7 and Ian Rogers on hole 16. The 50/50 winner was Al Wilkinson.

We’re back to the blue tees next week. See you then.

For those members taking part in the Club Championships this weekend, best of luck and think dry thoughts.

Stones Tied For Second

Steve Westlake tees off on hole 17.
Time is quickly slipping away to solidify team rankings heading into the playoffs. Just three weeks of regular season play remains.

The Rolling Stones were able to take six points from the Southpaws and slip into a second place tie with the lefties. The Stones have also guaranteed their place in the “A” division of the playoffs and they helped the Fat Shafts increase their first place lead to nine points after they took six points from the Hackers.

The Dubbers stumbled this week and allowed the KGB and Grip It N Sip It, who both took six points, to leap frog them and sit tied for fourth place.

The Wedgers and Hackers will be playing in the “C” Division of the playoffs as they mathematically can’t reach 8th place.

Also taking six points tonight were the Latecomers and CCCP.

The closest to the pin winners were Mark Lafee on hole 6 and Paul Scobie on hole 15. The 50/50 winner was Josh McDonald

We’re back to the white tees next week. See you then.

Dubbers Move Up

Despite the humid and buggy night, we certainly can’t complain about the golf conditions so far this season. Tonight, despite being a bit toasty, was another excellent evening to be swinging the clubs.

Tim Donaldson led all golfers tonight by shooting a round of 26 on the front nine.  That left him just shy of tying the Individual Low Gross. He did help his Southpaws teammates take six points and shorten the lead of the first place Fat Shafts to three. They only managed five points.

The Dubbers, who took six points, took advantage of a pointless night by the KGB to slip ahead of them into fourth place and the potential last spot in the “A” division of the playoffs which are quickly approaching. The Fat Shafts and Southpaws have both clinched a spot in the top division.

Also taking six points were Grip It N Sip It and the Rolling Stones. The Latecomers took four points and Fivesome earned two points. The CCCP grabbed one point.

The closest to the pin winners were Rodney Keyes on hole 5 and Coady MacGillivary on hole 14. The 50/50 winner was Brady Schick.

With only four weeks of regular season play left, we return to the blue tees next week. See you then.

Fat Shafts Regain Lead

Peter Hughes tees off on hole #2

Once again, based on the majority of the scores, hitting from the longer blue tees proved to be a challenge this evening. The Fat Shafts were the only team to post a sub 100 team score of 98.

A trio of players, Al Wilkinson, Kevin Wadsworth and Colin McDonald, had the low individual rounds of 30 tonight.

The Fat Shafts took advantage of an off night by the Southpaws to move back into sole possession of top spot. The Dubbers sit five points out of fourth while Grip It N Sip It are one point back in sixth and the Whizbangers are only two points back in seventh.

The Latecomers continue to cling to eighth place with a one point lead over Fivesome for the last spot in the B division of the playoffs. Just five weeks remain in the regular season.

Taking six points in their matches were the Rolling Stones, Wedgers and CCCP. The Fat Shafts and Whizbangers grabbed five points while Grip It N Sip It took four points. The KGB took two while the Dubbers and Southpaws settled for a single point.

The closest to the pin winners tonight were Al Wilkinson  on hole 4 and Jamie Sandercock on hole 13. The 50/50 winner was Matt Knell.

We’re back to the white tees next Wednesday.

UPDATED: The standings have been adjusted and the story should be correct now after a scoring error was found on the sheet on Thursday.

Solid Rounds For Many

Ideal conditions both on the course and weather wise resulted in some much lower scores overall tonight.

Six teams posted sub 100 team totals. Peter Hughes and Andy Koetstra had the low individual rounds shooting one over par 28. Thirteen others shot 32 or better. Good shooting guys.

There was some movement in the standings as the Dubbers moved into fifth place, just four points behind the fourth place KGB. The Latecomers have a slim one point edge on the Fivesome for the potential last spot in the B division come the playoffs. Only six weeks remain in the regular season.

In the nights matches, the Southpaws, Rolling Stones, Fat Shafts and Dubbers all took six points. The Whizbangers earned five points while the Fivesome took four points. The Hackers doubled their season point total by taking two points while one point went to the Wedgers.

The closest to the pin winners were Colin McDonald on hole 3 and Kim Defosse on hole 12. The 50/50 winner was Peter Hughes.

See you next Wednesday on the blue tees.
