We were saddened to learn during our round tonight that Jerry Powell had passed away this afternoon after his long battle.
Jerry was a long time member of our league while playing for the CCCP. He was always a joy to play a round of golf with or share a chat with at the clubhouse. His quiet humour always made the round much more enjoyable.
We send our sincere condolences to Steve, Dave and the entire Powell family at this difficult time. Jerry was 61 years old.
Below is a video with Jerry playing a round in 2019.
I don't know if it was the heat or the blue tees but low scoring rounds were hard to come by tonight with not one team shooting a sub-100 round. Andy Koetstra had the lowest individual score of the night shooting a 31.
With just one week left to play, playoff positions have yet to be decided officially and a lot could change in the final round next Wednesday night. Once things have been finalized and I have received the playoff schedule and format, I will try to get it up here as quickly as possible.
In tonight's action the Whizbangers, Dubbers and Southpaws all took six points. The Fat Shafts, Wedgers and KGB all earned four points while two points each went to the Rolling Stones, Fivesome and CCCP.
The Closest to the Pin winners were Dave Schwartz on hole #1 and Eric Korver on hole #10. The 50/50 winner was Kory Hietala.
First off let me apologize for the league standings having to be added at the end of this weeks post. Something has changed with our site provider that has removed all functionality with the side column which no longer allows me to edit the standings there. If this isn't fixed soon I may have to create a new website using a different provider. Time will tell.
After this week, we only have two more weeks of regular season to go before the playoffs begin. It's my understanding, as it stands, that there will be four weeks of playoffs. The top four teams will make up the "A" flight. Teams five to eight will make up the "B" flight and teams nine to eleven will compete in the "C" flight. Details on how that will work will be made available soon.
Time is running out to make a move but there are still some teams who could make a push and move higher in the standings.
In action tonight, the Latecomers, Southpaws and Fat Shafts all earned six points. The Rolling Stones earned five points while four points each went to the KGB and Dubbers. The Fivesome and Wedgers each grabbed two points while the Hackers took a single point.
The Closest to the Pin winners were Peter Hughes on hole #9 and Shane McGill on hole #18. The 50/50 winner was Randy Grills.
The blue tees proved to be a challenge for some again this week but for some it was a piece of cake. Paul Scobie had the low round of the night posting an even par 27.
Marsh Ferguson fires away at hole 7.
Al Wilkinson and Andy Koetstra both shot two over 29 for the evening.
In the nights matches, four teams swept their opponents as the KGB, Southpaws, Fat Shafts and Dubbers all took six points. The Rolling Stones and CCCP came close by earning five points each while the Whizbangers and Hackers each settled for single points. The standings continue to be close with no one team running away with it at this point of the season.
The Closest to the Pin winners tonight were Randy Conley on hole #8 and Kal Hietala on hole #17. The 50/50 winner was Tom St.Denis. See you next week.
With the standings being as tight as they are, it's no surprise that things can change quickly one week to the next.
For the Fivesome, who took five points tonight, that moved them up several places into fourth place, albeit by a slim margin.
In other action tonight, the CCCP and Latecomers were the only teams to sweep all six points. The Fat Shafts took five points while the Rolling Stones and Southpaws earned four points each. The Dubbers and KGB took two points while the Wedgers and Whizbangers settled for single points each.
The Closest to the Pin winners tonight were Andrew Brennan on hole #7 and Eric Korver on hole #16. The 50/50 winner was Ian Rogers.
No video this week. I was bribed to erase all evidence. See you next Wednesday.
Andy Koetstra was dialed in tonight on the back nine blues as he turned in an impressive round of one under par 26. This score sets the new mark to beat for the Individual Low Gross.
The KGB had the low team gross for the night with a score of 95 which gave them six points. The Fivesome also took all of their points with the bye week.
The Latecomers, Southpaws, Wedgers and Fat Shafts all earned four points while two points each went to the Dubbers, Rolling Stones, CCCP and Hackers.
The closest to the pin winners tonight were Pat Convey on hole #6 and Mark Adams on hole #15. The 50/50 winner was Tony Schick.
