Wilkinson Ties Low Gross

It was a chilly, overcast and judging by some of the scores, a difficult round as week two saw us play the longer blue tees for the first time this season.

Only one team posted a sub-100 round this evening as the Fat Shafts turned in a 99 and took six points in their match.
Glenn Lonergan just misses on hole #8.
Also taking all six were the Dubbers and CCCP. The KGB and Southpaws each earned five points while the Whizbangers grabbed four points. Taking two points was the Hackers while single points went to the Wedgers and Fivesome.

Al Wilkinson shot the low round of 29 to earn a share of the Individual Low Gross lead. The closest to the pin winners were Mark Adams on hole #2 and Tom St.Denis on hole #11. The 50/50 winner this week was Randy Conley.

And We're Off

Welcome back golfers! I don't want to my jinx anything but unlike last year when we weren't able to start play until May 2nd, this year after a long winter, we were able to get the league started on time.
Tony Schick tees off at the 14th hole.
I don't think we could have asked for a nicer evening for mid-April.

Two teams began the year by taking all the points in their matches as the KGB and Fat Shafts each earned six points. The Rolling Stones came close by taking five while the Fivesome, Latecomers and Bogies each grabbed four points. Two points went to the Dubbers, Wedgers and Whizbangers while a single point was nabbed by the CCCP.

Tim Donaldson set the early mark to beat for Individual Low Gross by posting a round of 29 while the KGB shot a combined score of 92 to grab the Team Low Gross lead.

The closest to the pin winners were Jerry Powell on hole #1 and Glenn Lonergan on hole #10. The 50/50 winner was Rick Dean.

Rule Changes for 2019

On the eve of our league beginning play for this new season, some of you might be interested in familiarizing yourself with the new rule changes for 2019.

One rule I think will be of particular help to our league is the speed of play changes. Some of our members take far too much time to play their shots and this needs to be adjusted so our rounds are quicker and more enjoyable for everyone. It should take no more than 40 seconds to play your shot and even that might be too long. Ready golf is a great way to help speed things up.

Some local course rules may be slightly different or take precedence.

I See Grass!

UPDATE: I have been informed by Andy that the league is scheduled to start at 6:00pm on Wednesday April 17th...weather and conditions permitting.

It has been a long winter away and we aren't quite ready to hit the course yet but the signs of Spring are slowly making their presence known.

Last season we had some bad luck with the last gasp of winter forcing us to cancel the first two weeks of the season. Hopefully that won't be the case in 2019.

The schedule isn't available yet but as soon as I hear a start date for the league I will be sure to post it here. Also, once I have a schedule, I will try and post it like I did last year with a link to the right that you can click on at any time to view it.

We hope everyone had a good and safe winter and we look forward to seeing you at the golf course in the near future.

2018 Playoffs - Final Round

As the saying goes...that's all folks. Another season has come to an end and we couldn't have asked for a better day. The muggy hot weather gave way to more seasonal temperatures and some beautiful sunshine to finish off our year.

In the "A" Flight, the lead by the Rolling Stones heading into the last round proved to be too much for the rest of the teams to make a move and challenge them. Although the Fat Shafts did post the lowest round of the day, the could only pick up three strokes to finish 14 strokes behind the winners. The league champion KGB finished in third while the Southpaws came in fourth well back.

Over in the "B" Flight, the Dubbers held a two stroke advantage going into the final 18 holes but stumbled and the Whizbangers moved past them to earn the title by a final margin of 10 strokes. The Latecomers had a tough day and slipped out of contention early while the Wedgers finished in fourth.

The closest battle was in the "C" Flight. The Fivesome, who lead by 14 going into the day, barely held off the charging Bogies and won by only three strokes in the end. The CCCP finished in third place while the Hackers ended up in fourth.

Once again this year we give our thanks to Steve Powell for all he does not only on the final day but all season long to keep the league running smoothly. Thanks to Tom, Alida and Andy for their efforts both in keeping the course in great shape in tough conditions and for keeping things organized in the clubhouse. I also want to thank Alida for sending me the results each week so I can update the blog.

The season started slow with some cold icy cancelled rounds but overall we managed to have good luck most of the season with the weather. Unless of course you're not a fan of the heat because it was a scorcher most nights.

Thanks to all of you for checking out the blog for updates each week and for another fun season. I look forward to seeing everyone in the Spring and hope you have a safe Autumn and Winter.

For those of you who would like to keep the clubs out a bit longer, we keep playing on Wednesday nights with some fun scrambles as long as the daylight allows.
