Playoff Picture Getting Clearer

Did anyone notice the bugs tonight? The thunderstorms passed us by but the swarms of flying critters were definitely annoying as we completed the second last round of regular play.

Some teams were able to make moves and secure their playoff positions this evening. The Whizbangers and Southpaws clinched spots in the “A” flight by taking six points each in their matches.  The Rolling Stones also earned six points and hold a five point lead over Grip It N Sip It, who took four points, for fourth place.

The Dubbers and KGB will be in the “B” flight after both teams were blanked tonight. The Fivesome still have a chance to get into the “B” flight if they can sneak past the Latecomers but it will come down to next week.

In other action, the Fat Shafts and Hackers each took six points while the CCCP earned two points.

The closest to the pin winners were Dave Walker on hole #8 and Mark Kennedy on hole #17. Ron Eliens was the 50/50 winner this week.

Back to the white tees next week to finish off the regular season. We’ll see you there.

Fat Shafts Clinch First Again

For the fourth consecutive season, the Fat Shafts have claimed the Regular Season title. With only two weeks of league play remaining prior to the playoffs, they can not be caught and have secured a spot in the “A” flight.

As far as the remainder of the standings go, there’s still time to make moves to lock down playoff spots and it will likely come down to the final night. The Hackers, Wedgers and CCCP will make up three of the four teams in the “C” Flight. The Fivesome can still challenge for a spot in the “B” flight if they can make a move.

Mathematically six other teams have a chance to make the “A” flight but it will all hinge on how the points are allocated in the last two weeks.

In tonight’s matches, the Fat Shafts and Dubbers took six points. The Rolling Stones, CCCP and Whizbangers earned five points each. Four points went to Grip It N Sip It and the Fivesome took two points. The Southpaws, Wedgers and KGB settled for one point each.

The closest to the pin winners were Steve Westlake on hole #7 and Sean Jarvis on hole #16. Dean Timson was the 50/50 winner this week.

Back to the blue tees next week. We’ll see you there.

Many Had The Blues

It was another humid summer night for golf but unfortunately that, combined with very still air, didn’t translate into a trouble free round for many. The longer blue tees proved to be a challenge once again.

The standings are a bit more defined after tonight but it’s still anyones guess how the playoff rankings will pan out. Next week could make things a bit clearer.

In tonight’s matches, the Dubbers, Latecomers and Rolling Stones were the only teams to take all six points. The Fat Shafts, Grip It N Sip It and KGB earned four points while the CCCP, Southpaws and Hackers all took two points.

The closest to the pin winners were Tom St Denis on hole #6 and Rodney Keyes on hole #15. The 50/50 winner was Steve Guindon.

See you next week on the white tees.

Koetstra Aces Sixteen

Andy All Smiles After His Hole-in-One

With only four weeks left in the regular season there is still plenty to be decided in the standings and how the playoff picture will unfold.

Only the Fat Shafts have assured themselves of a spot in the “A” flight at this point. Mathematically six other teams are still in the hunt for the top division. The Hackers have ensured their spot in the “C” flight. All other spots are still up for grabs and it could come down to the last week to see what happens when the dust settles.

There were some impressive rounds tonight. Andy Koetstra of the Fat Shafts had our leagues first hole-in-one of the year. Andy aced the 16th hole using a 56 degree wedge. The best rounds of the night went to Murdoch Garrett and Paul Scobie who each shot even par 27’s.

In the nights matches, the Fivesome, Whizbangers, Rolling Stones, Fat Shafts and Wedgers all took six points. Grip It N Sip It took five points and the K.G.B earned one point.

The closest to the pin winners were Josh McDonald on hole #5 and Al Wilkinson on hole #14. The 50/50 winner was Tyler Rittwage.

See you next week on the blue tees.

Blues Were Buggy and Boiling

The sweltering heat and humidity combined with the constant buzzing of bugs made playing from the blue tees extra challenging tonight.

I couldn’t even find time to take any photos or videos tonight as I was either trying to dry off, swing or defend myself.

In the evenings matches, the Dubbers moved up two places into fourth spot after taking four points and leapfrogging the KGB and Grip It N Sip It. The CCCP took two points.

Elsewhere the Fivesome, Whizbangers and Fat Shafts all took six points. In a very tight match the Southpaws earned five points while the Latecomers took one point. The Rolling Stones took four points while Grip It N Sip It finished with two points.

The closest to the pin winners were Jordan Mercer on hole #4 and Gerry Fox on hole #13. The 50/50 winner was Kim Defosse.

We’re back to the white tees next week and hopefully more comfortable temperatures. See you then.

Low Scoring Night For Many

We couldn’t have timed the completion of tonight’s round much better as the rain waited until we finished before the soaking began.

After a quick check of the scoresheet it was clear to see the scores for many were very impressive. Although nobody matched the individual low gross leading score, at least five golfers shot scores under 30. The lowest score was turned in by Tim Donaldson who shot an even par 27. Tim was also the 50/50 winner.

In the nights matches, the Fivesome, Whizbangers, Grip It N Sip It, Southpaws and Fat Shafts all took six points. The Dubbers earned four points while two points went to the KGB.

The closest to the pin winners were Tom St.Denis on hole #3 and Don Muldoon on hole #12.

We’re back to the blue tees next week. See you then.

The Standings Shuffle

With just seven weeks of regular season play left before the playoffs, things remain tight and ever changing.

From one week to the next the teams from 3rd to 8th place continue to flip flop spots. With just a nine point spread, these teams continue to battle for playoff positioning.

In tonight’s action, the Fat Shafts, Whizbangers, KGB, CCCP and Rolling Stones all took six points. The Southpaws earned five while the Fivesome tied the Net for a single point.

Nick VanGemeren was both good and lucky tonight grabbing the closest to the pin on hole #11 and the 50/50. Kim Defosse was closest on hole #2.
